Getting the perfect brows is far from an easy task. Not only can it take time to master, but it can even be costly. With so many different brow products and trends constantly surfacing, it can seem impossible to know don'ts and don'ts.
One of the first steps to getting on point brows is making sure you have a strong arch. Your brow arch can make or break so many aspects of your brow game.
You may think that having a good eyebrow arch is something you're born with, but we're here to tell you literally anyone can have a killer arch. You just have to know how to get one. Here at TatBrow, we know eyebrows, and we know just how to get yours looking perfect. Now, let's dive into all things arches!
Why Are Brows So Important?
One of our favorite claims to make is that brows are totally important, but we figured it would be a good idea to take the time and explain to you exactly why that is.
Brows are not only the focal point of your face, but they also have tons of important tasks. Not only do they frame your face and accentuate your eyes, but they play a huge role in communication as well. It is said that your eyebrows play a bigger role in communication than your own eyes.
There are so many pros to having well-kept and attractive brows.
When you have well-kept healthy brows, you are going to look more fun and youthful instantly. Your eyes will look brighter and your skin healthier. Your eyebrows are one of the first things people will look at when conversing with you, so it's important they aren't under or over-plucked. Having a strong arch and a clean-cut look will make your eyes look bigger and brighter.
Frames Your Eyes
One of the best things about having a good brow shape is that it will perfectly frame your eyes as long as it was done correctly. If you have the correct shape, it will frame your eyes, but it could leave your eyes looking dreary, tired, and wonky if you have the wrong shape.
It's hard to pinpoint the perfect eyebrow shape for you as it's all dependent on your face and eye shape. But we're going to walk you through all the "need to know" in a bit.
Look More Put-Together
Overgrown brows can leave you looking messy and unprepared, but nicely tweezed and filled in brows will leave you looking professional and ready to take on the day.
The best part about having a great set of brows is that makeup becomes a thing of the past. We think a girl's best accessory is her brows.
Brings Balance to Your Face
As much as we all hate to admit it, no matter who you are, your face is most likely a little off balance. The good thing about brows is that if you have symmetrical and perfect brows, it can help even out any imbalances that are going on on your face.
We all have things we don't like about ourselves, but here at TatBrow, we hate to refer to them as flaws, even if that's what you would call them.
If you have a few things you don't completely love about yourself, a good tweeze and fill with the brows can help you leave those insecurities at home.
Whether you think your eyes are too small, too far apart, or too close together, you can use your tweezing and makeup skills to correct any of those issues. It's just a matter of learning how to do it.
Supplies You’ll Need
If you want to get the perfect brows, you'll first need to get all your supplies together.
- Brow scissors
- Eyeliner pen
- Micro Precision Pen
- Precision Razor
Each of these products will play a crucial role in your brow transformation, so we suggest including all of them.
Step #1: Find Your Shape
Finding your shape is the most important step to this entire process. To get the perfect arch, you need to know where your arch hits naturally, and knowing your brow shape will give you all the arch information you need.
Finding your shape for the first time might take a few minutes, but after you have it figured out, you're set forever.
- First, grab your eyeliner pencil and place it on the outside of your nostril. You want the tip of the pencil pointing straight up. You don't want the stick portion of the pencil in the eye area; wherever the tip of the pencil lands in where the start of your brow is.
- Next, take the pencil and move it, so it's angled right across the middle of your eye. Wherever the tip of the pencil lands in the brow is right where your natural arch lays, make sure you mark this area so you don't forget it.
- Lastly, you want to keep the pencil against your nostril still, but you also want to point it out towards the corner of the eye. The pencil stick should run right along the waterline; wherever the tip of the pencil hits is where the tail of the brow is.
Now that you have the perfect brow shape mapped out, you can start the fun stuff—shaping your brows.
TatBrow Tip: If you feel like you can't find your shape on your own or just have never been able to get your perfect shape, you can always look into seeing a brow specialist or using eyebrow stencils.
Step #2: Trim Your Hairs
A crucial step that many people skip in their brow routine is trimming the brow hairs. Not only can your brows get overgrown around the edges, but the hairs themselves can get very long. If you don't take the time to trim them, no matter how much you pluck and shape your brows, they'll never look perfect.
The process is quite simple; all you have to do is take a makeup spoolie and brush all your brow hairs up. Then you take the brow scissors and carefully trim all the extra-long hairs. Simple as that!
Step #3: Brush and Tweeze
After you've got your brows perfectly trimmed, it's time to grab your tweezers and start plucking. This is where you can start to add some definition to your arch. It's all in your technique.
You want to comb all your hair in an upward motion in the direction of your hair growth. Then you want to go under your arch and get any sparse or overgrown hairs. The best way to bring definition to your arch is by focusing your attention on the lower portion of the brow. This will make the whole look appear more clean-cut and dramatic.
If you have extra thick brows, then you don't have to stress about over-plucking, but if you aren't that lucky, just make sure you're careful with your tweezers.
Step #4: Choose Your Products Wisely
A big part of getting a great arch is how well you can fill in your brows when it comes to getting a great arch.
Of course, unless you're a professional makeup technician, we know it can be quite difficult to get them perfect. That's why here at TatBrow, we've made sure to design products that literally anyone could use and be good at.
You want to choose your products wisely, as they can make or break your brow look. If you're someone that struggles with filling in their brows, we always suggest the Microblade Pen. It offers you support throughout the whole application. No matter how it is applied, the results will appear natural and flawless.
Step #5: Fill in the Gaps
Unless you were blessed with the most luscious natural brows ever, chances are you'll have to fill your new set of brows in a little. It'll be a piece of cake with your new tools, though, so there is no need to stress it.
This is where your arch will come to life. The application of the product is so simple yet does wonders for your eyebrow arch.
The first thing you'll want to refer back to is your brow shape. Think about where you originally marked your arch and start there. You want to take your brow pen and give your arch a little bit of attention. After you've added some volume to your arch, you can go ahead and fill in any other gaps or sparse areas.
Step #6: Admire Your New Brows
Now that your brows are all done, you can take a step back and admire all your hard work. Dealing with your brows isn't always fun, but you were a total trooper! Now your brows are looking better than ever.
Step #7: Have Fun With Your Makeup
One of the best parts of having a fresh set of brows and that it really does make you excited for the rest of your makeup routine. Everyone knows how wonky brows can throw off even the best of makeup looks, but now that your brows are looking on point, it's time to take advantage.
Tips To Keep Your Eyebrows Healthy
Your eyebrow health should be taken just as seriously as your normal hair health. Often, people get all caught up in their hair and lashes and will totally neglect their brows. We think that considering your brows are one of the main focal points of your face, they should get just as much attention as anything else.
- Eat a balanced diet.
- Don't over-pluck or wax.
- Use coconut oil.
- Use tea tree oil.
- Brush eyebrows daily.
There are tons of little things you can do to keep your brows looking nice and healthy: eat a balanced diet, make sure you don't over-pluck, and apply essential oils to your brows every day; they can all aid the health and thickness of your brows.
It’s also important to remember that you should always make sure you have a clean canvas anytime you do anything with your brows. In other words, you should wash your face thoroughly before any kind of brow tweezing or shaving.
When you have a clean face, this will prevent any irritation or infections from starting and ingrown hairs or unwanted pimples and blemishes.
Having the perfect eyebrows starts with the perfect arch. You may have lived your whole life thinking you achieve the perfect arch by having good luck and genetics, but that’s not the case. You can easily train and shape your eyebrows to have a nice strong arch, even if you thought it was never possible.
Yes, some people are going to have naturally very high and strong arches, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have your chance to rock a high arch too.
Doing your brows can feel taxing and time-consuming, not to mention stressful. But it’s important to remember the whole point is to have fun and look great while doing it. Your brows are definitely not worth getting upset about.
Yes, even you have been trying to get your arch on point for the last 20 minutes! We always say, “when in doubt, take a breather.” Give yourself a few minutes of break time and watch how much easier everything will come to you.
